Human Colossus Foundation Announces the Publication of "Decentralised Semantics: A Semantic Engine User Perspective"

The Human Colossus Foundation announces the release of a pioneering paper, "Decentralised Semantics: A Semantic Engine User Perspective," by Carly M. Huitema, Paul Knowles, Philippe Page, and A. Michelle Edwards. This paper introduces the Semantic Engine, a powerful tool built on the Overlays Capture Architecture (OCA), designed to enhance the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) principles for data. The Semantic Engine allows researchers, particularly in the agri-food sector, to create decentralized, machine-actionable metadata schemas, facilitating better data management across institutions. The paper is available at https://doi.org/10.5334/dsj-2024-042.

Developing Sustainable Approaches to Shaping a Secure and Inclusive European Health Data Space

Nestled amidst the majestic Swiss Alps and the picturesque Disentis Monastery, the 2024 Summer Academy of the German Studientstiftung des deutschen Volkes and Max Weber Programm was an inspiring setting for over 70 passionate students. Among them, six vibrant working groups explored pressing societal matters, ranging from sustainability to digital health. One such group took on the challenge of envisioning a secure and inclusive European Health Data Space (EHDS).

Securing Your Digital Future: A Three-Part Series on Enhanced Privacy through Data Protection - Part 1

In 'Securing Your Digital Future,' Part 1 of this three-part series unveils the pivotal role of the Blinding Identity Taxonomy (BIT) and its Supplementary Document in fortifying data privacy. Emphasizing the critical need to protect sensitive personal data, we explore the foundation of data semantics—bolstered by the BIT framework crafted by the Human Colossus Foundation and backed by Kantara Initiative—as the cornerstone for identifying and securing sensitive data attributes, paving the way for robust data privacy in the digital landscape.

Self Actioning System, a preferred systematic embodiment of “Digital Self”

This article is the first in a two-part series. It aims to clarify the benefits and limitations of digital twinning technologies and why recent developments in AI continue to raise global concern regarding the inevitable socio-ethical dangers of digital twinning conscious entities–––a virtual model of "digital self"–––and our quest to protect free will and human agency in the current surveillance economy, where humans hope to leverage insights from digital twins for material objects and processes rather than being beholden to a virtual representation of "self" in the digital space.

Unleashing the Future of Mobile Wallets: A Data-Centric Perspective

In the future, as evidenced by advancing industry standards (e.g., DIDs, VCs) and new regulations (e.g., eIDAS), nearly every road to individual commercial, civic, and personal engagement will invariably flow through mobile wallets. Do you know what it means to serve the connected individual (i.e., consumers, prospects, clients, employees, etc.) within the emerging “dynamic data economy”? Do you have an open, semantic, and context-driven mobile wallet strategy? If not, join us. In this webinar, we will explain the emerging dynamic data economy. We’ll define and explore the strategic importance of semantics and context-sensitive mobile wallets and what it takes to build them, interact with them, use them, and unlock their potential. You’ll learn about the open-source “Overlays Capture Architecture (OCA),” a mobile wallet framework developed, governed, and maintained by the Human Colossus Foundation.

AI Governance starts with Data Governance

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought humanity to a critical juncture. The recent international conference, AI for Good, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), underscored the situation's urgency. Our society stands at a tipping point where the potential of AI could either accelerate progress towards the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or drive us towards an uncertain societal future. The ITU secretary general and other senior speakers asked for a global call for action.
